Thanksgiving

ThanksgivingIn the 17th century over hundred Pilgrims came to America.

It was difficult to come there. They came to Plymouth and it was winter. Half of the Pilgrims died because of the temperature.  However, the Native Americans taught these Pilgrims to grow crops.

The next year, there wasn’t enough rain and Pilgrims prayed one day. They asked God for a good harvest in that season.  God heard their prayers and they had a good harvest. The Pilgrims made a feast and the Native Americans were their guests. This started the tradition of Thanksgiving celebrations.

Thanksgiving became a national holiday thanks to John Hanson, the first President of the United States.

The sixteenth President of the US, Abraham Lincoln, “proclaimed “that the last Thursday of November will be celebrated as Thanksgiving day.
